Clean eating: Progress

After a week of mostly clean eating, I'm 1.5kg down and feeling pretty good. I've still had a few red bulls and diet cokes, but even then cut back. Aside from falling off the wagon for lunch today (steak sandwich and chips followed by a handful of lollies, oops) and yesterday (handful of lollies, someone needs to love the lolly jar) I've been really on track. i don't eat carbs after 3pm and all of my meals are fresh and very often raw.

This afternoon's steak sandwich was great in that my stomach immediately reacted to it, meaning I really HAVE made a difference by eating well for my body to notice. Yay! Hopefully my slip ups wont make too much of a difference to my weight.

In other exciting news, I have a treadmill at home; and a full set of Tracy Anderson DVDs! I'm going to use the treadmill for a fat burning walk each day and will use Tracy Anderson for cardio on top.

Loving it :)

Sleep/wake practice

 {source}

In a bid to improve my sleep habits, I'm going to impelemnt a system put forward by Blogger/genius Steve Pavlina in his blog post on 'how to wake up when the alarm clock goes off'.

Steps are as follows, I've set an alarm to practice at 8pm every night :)

(following text from www.stevepavlina.com)

1. Now how do you do this?  The same way you learned any other repeatable skill.  You practice until it becomes rote.  Eventually your subconscious will take over and run the script on autopilot.

2. This is going to sound really stupid, but it works.  Practice getting up as soon as your alarm goes off.  That’s right — practice.  But don’t do it in the morning.  Do it during the day when you’re wide awake.

3. Go to your bedroom, and set the room conditions to match your desired wake-up time as best you can.  Darken the room, or practice in the evening just after sunset so it’s already dark.  If you sleep in pajamas, put on your pajamas.  If you brush your teeth before bed, then brush your teeth.  If you take off your glasses or contacts when you sleep, then take those off too.

4. Set your alarm for a few minutes ahead.  Lie down in bed just like you would if you were sleeping, and close your eyes.  Get into your favorite sleep position.  Imagine it’s early in the morning… a few minutes before your desired wake-up time.  Pretend you’re actually asleep.  Visualize a dream location, or just zone out as best you can.

5. Now when your alarm goes off, turn it off as fast as you can.  Then take a deep breath to fully inflate your lungs, and stretch your limbs out in all directions for a couple seconds… like you’re stretching during a yawn.  Then sit up, plant your feet on the floor, and stand up.  Smile a big smile.  Then proceed to do the very next action you’d like to do upon waking.  For me it’s getting dressed.

6. Now shake yourself off, restore the pre-waking conditions, return to bed, reset your alarm, and repeat.  Do this over and over and over until it becomes so automatic that you run through the whole ritual without thinking about it.  If you have to subvocalize any of the steps (i.e. if you hear a mental voice coaching you on what to do), you’re not there yet.

I'm loving Steve's work, his blog is amazing and not only inspiring but interesting to read. Absolutely 100% recommended!

2012: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

While I did do some pretty epic things (bought a property with The Planner, bought a horse, broke my pelvis :-/ ), 2011 was a bit of a 'blah' year for me in many ways.

For example, I had mixed feelings about my job - great pay but I failed to see the challenge or purpose in it. I rode Kadey, but not in any structured way - even lessons felt a bit all over the show. I became so obsessed with Kadey that I let my usual standards of grooming and style fall a but by the wayside. You would always find with a face full of MAC, but my hair would be atrocious and little grooming things slid. I BARELY saw most of my friends. The Planner and I spent a lot of time arguing, apart or in the same room but not in the same headspace.

It was still a year of achievements, but for me I felt it was laying foundations. For example - I have a great job situation; I'm going to do my  best this year to excel and make the most of the opportunity. To shine. When I'm back in the saddle I plan to be much more structured and goal-oriented with my riding; and to use my time out of the saddle more wisely. To regain my sense of self and to express that through my grooming, personal style and conduct. To make time to enjoy the beautiful friends I have; and to build new friendships. To spend quality time with The Planner, with a renewed focus on supporting each other and moving into the future together.

Enjoy the fresh start that January 2012 offers, along with the joy, promise and determination that your goals and ambitions for the year represent :D

2012: Ramping up for happiness, growth and love :)

 { source }

I'm currently mapping out my goals for 2012, again using the Kikki K Goals book.

I'm looking forward to ramping up to a year of focusing on my goals - I felt a bit aimless in 2011, partly due to my strange work situations and partly due to relationship uncertainty as The Planner and I went through a host of ups and downs.

But for 2012 I'm looking forward to getting back on track, making it happen and, as Tim Gunn says, making it work. No matter if I'm in my current role or a new one or what aspects of our relationship drive The Planner and I crazy, 2012 is the year I focus on moving forward and managing how I respond to life, rather than getting lost in the detail of what's happening.

Bring. it. on.

Dash the Puppalupagus

Following the last slap dash (oh the pun) update, here is an actual photo of our puppy Dash.

Initially we had two pups, but Hayley had to be returned for a number of reasons. I still cry a bit over her and I just hope she finds the happy home she so sorely deserves xo
